Last modified on Oct 17, 2013

Getting Around:

Beginning June 1, 2012 limited access through the main landslide will be available overnights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  and weekends beginning at 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Traffic Impact:

  • Businesses at the mouth of the canyon immediately above Cedar City are accessible.
  • State Route 14 is open from U.S. 89 to Duck Creek Village.
  • The road between Cedar City and Cedar National Monument is anticipated to be fully open by Mid-Summer 2012 with short stretches of construction continuing into Fall 2012.
  • A winter road closure currently extends from milepost 5 to Deer Valley.
  • S.R. 148 which connects S.R. 14 to S.R. 143 is closed for the winter season.

Project Overview:

This project restores a section of S.R. 14 affected by a  landslide and addresses other slide and erosion areas between mileposts 7 and 17.

Simultaneous Design and Construction:

  • A new road design has reduced the volume of debris to be removed from approximately One-million cubic yards to near 400-thousand cubic yards saving significant time and cost.
  • The design team includes UDOT engineers and professionals, consultant designers, a construction firm, and geo-technical experts.
  • The first of three key construction packages has been awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure West.
  • Design of the entire project is on schedule.  While earthwork continues, a second package that will get the road to paved status with safety improvements and a third package to address other trouble spots are scheduled for release in the spring.
