S.R. 14 Update

Mass excavation now complete!

The excavation with the removal of approximately 400,000 cubic yards of material from the massive state Route 14 landslide is now complete. The reconstruction of S.R. 14 is taking place in four locations: mile post 7.5-8.2, mile post 9.7, mile post 10 and mile post 17.

 Milepost 7.5-8.2: With the mass excavation now complete in this area, the major pieces of equipment that were utilized for the mass excavation have now left the project site, Crews have now set their sights on finalizing the roadway grade and getting ready to place road base in preparation for paving activities, the new roadway has really begun to take shape. In addition, construction of the 3,300 sf earth stabilizing wall is nearly complete.

 Milepost 9.7: Construction crews will be repairing a tunnel that runs under the roadway, the design for this repair is currently being finalized and construction is anticipated to begin in the coming weeks.

 Milepost 10: Crews will be stabilizing the roadway and building a rock buttress. Excavation and roadway stabilization activities at milepost 10 will be complete by mid-May

 Milepost 17: the roadway is unstable and is continually moving. In order to stabilize the roadway in this location, construction crews will install a 200 foot long soldier pile wall to keep the roadway in place. Design at this location is currently being finalized and construction is anticipated to start in early summer.
