'Mountain Man' captured in Emery County

FERRON, Emery County — Notorious fugitive Troy James Knapp, known by many simply as "The Mountain Man," has been taken into custody.

Iron County sheriff's officials confirmed that the 45-year-old was arrested Tuesday morning. He reportedly was taken into custody near the town of Ferron.

Knapp is a survivalist who is believed to have broken into dozens of cabins in southern and central Utah for at least seven years.

He faces a total of 18 charges in Iron, Kane and Garfield counties. An arrest warrant was issued in Iron County's 6th District Court in 2012 for aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; two counts of burglary, and one count of possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, third-degree felonies.
